Jute: Fibre of the FutureThe climate of Bangladesh permits abundant growth of the best quality jute. Raw jute or jute fiber is the second most important natural fiber in the world after cotton. Jute has hundreds of uses and experimentation and blending with other raw materials is adding to the uses everyday.
Uses of JuteJute is ideally used as bags and sacks for packing almost all kinds of agricultural products, minerals, fertilizers, cement etc; wool packs and cotton bales; wrapping materials; carrier and backing fabric for carpets and linoleum; cordage and twines; webbing to cover inner springs in auto seats and for the upholstery of furniture; cargo separators in ships, brattice cloth for mine ventilation and partition; filling material in cables; roofing and floor covering apparel, footwear lining; wall covering and furnishing fabric; fashion accessories; jute geo-textile for erosion control, paper pulp etc.
YarnsThe types of jute yarn manufactured can be classified according to the application/use to which they are put i.e. fine yarns, hessian yarns, carpet/special yarns, sacking yarns, etc. These yarns can be further classified into warp and weft yarns, the warp yarns normally being superior to the weft yarns as they have to withstand the cycles of stress during weaving while the weft yarns act more as filler and undergo less strain during weaving process.
Twines, Ropes, Cordage etc.Twines, ropes, cordages etc. are used for the purpose of tying, knotting, binding etc. particularly agricultural commodities. Jute yarns of various dimensions are plied together to make twines as per requirement and use.
Jute FabricsHessian, Sacking, Scrim, Carpet Backing Cloth (CBC) and Canvas are the most commonly used fabrics of jute.
Jute Hand Made PaperJute handmade paper being strong, having good load bearing capacity, not-easily tear able and also can be attractively dyed, has proved to be good material for making carry bags, folders, packets, gift boxes and such other consumables.

Jute GeotextilesJute geotextile is one of the most important diversified jute products with a potentially large-scale application. It can have several applications as: soil erosion control, vegetation consolidation, agro-mulching, reinforcement, and protection of riverbanks & embankments, land reclamation and in road pavement construction.
Diversified Jute ProductsNew technologies have been evolved for bulk use of jute, as a raw material in the production of high value added and price competitive intermediaries or final products. Innovative new products have been developed with high value-addition such as home textiles, jute composites, jute geo-textiles, paper pulp, technical textiles, chemical products, handicrafts and fashion accessories etc. These products for new, alternative and non-traditional use of jute are generally termed as Diversified Jute Products.
Among the various diversified jute products, floor coverings, home textiles, technical textiles, jute non-woven, jute reinforced composites, pulp & paper, particle boards, shopping bags, handicrafts, fashion accessories; apparels etc. have potential for wider use and application.
